Ron Knecht is Nevada's State Controller. The Controller is the Chief Fiscal Officer (CFO) of the state and is responsible for administering the state’s accounting system, settling all claims against the state and collecting debts owed to the state. The Controller processes and records the state’s financial transactions, conducts the final audit and ensures compliance with our constitution, federal laws and state statutes. The Controller also provides the citizens, state agencies, local governments and legislators with accurate and impartial financial information.
Ron is an economic, financial, technical and policy analyst. He has spent half his 43 working years in public service / education and half in entrepreneurial small business, all in professional and managerial positions. He has testified extensively as an expert witness and is a registered engineer in California.
Ron was elected to the Nevada Board of Regents, District 9, in 2006 and re-elected in 2012. He chaired the Business and Finance (budget) and Audit committees for two years each; for seven years he has served active on the Investment and Major Projects Committee, which oversees $1 billion of funds. He has served on four other committees and various presidential selection and performance review committees, chairing two of them. Previously, he served in the Nevada Assembly from 2002-04.
Ron has been a founder, executive or board member for six business firms and various charitable and public interest groups. He holds a BA from the University of Illinois, MS from Stanford University and JD from the University of San Francisco. He has been a Nevadan by Choice since 2001 and a columnist for various Nevada print and online papers.
Ron is a member of Carson City Kwianis and resides in Carson City with his wife Kathy and their daughter Karyn.
